It is a rather distasteful thing in a man, to flap and rush to get things done. There’s no self-respect or dignity in it. Take your time…

As men mature, they learn that things can only move at the pact they’re able to move. Sometimes that’s fast and sometimes slow. Either way, it’s important to align with that natural pace.

Attempting to be fast when the pace is slow, creates frustration. Attempting to be slow when the pace is fast, creates anxiety. Both of these states, knock you off beam, which requires time and energy to recover from.

So there’s a natural pace to life, but there’s also the pace that has been super-imposed upon life, by technology. The first we should attempt to align with. The latter, we should attempt to reduce our exposure to as much as possible, so to be more capable of aligning with the former.

If you wife needs to take her time to make a nice home environment for the family to enjoy, that is probably right. If she wants to play a game of cards when a taxi is waiting outside, that’s probably not right. I hope it’s clear to readers that I’m over-simplifying. There are many unaddressed potential variables in this example.

When it comes to children, they are less conditioned (and interfered with) by the pace of technology. So do what you can to protect them from it and they will live much more harmonious lives – in step with nature and other people who have been lucky enough to be stewarded wisely into adulthood.

Respond to life: be effective

In order to be able to respond to the pace of life, instead of reacting to it constantly, you need to be in a calm state of readiness to engage. That can be achieved through meditation, keeping good health otherwise, but also by having your life in order. Putting – what can be – in its place. There’s nothing more stressful than having a stack of critical stuff to get through and not enough time to get through it all. If you find yourself in that position, then you need to prioritise getting through the backlog.
