Balance is hard to find while we walk the tight rope of life. That is partly because of all of the contradictory and conflicting forces we need to reconcile in order to move forward.

But where there is conflict and disharmony there is also potential for peace and harmony. We know this because one cannot exist without the other. How would we know what day was, without there being a night. How would we know what cold was, without there being a hot. These polarities are the same thing, but to different degrees. Hot and cold are different degrees of temperature, as an easy to grasp example.

The big debate on balance – Good versus Evil

But what about Good and Evil? Are they polarities? How do we judge things at either side of this spectrum? Does the invasion of one country by another mean the invaders are evil? What about if the invasion is happening as a defensive measure? One man’s terrorist, is another man’s freedom fighter. Could violence itself be the Evil, whilst Good is non-violence? What about your actions – if you could go back in time and kill baby Hitler, would you be the saviour of millions of Jews, or would you be an evil baby killer?

It’s not simple to work these things out and reconcile the dual truths we encounter in every corner of life. But it’s all part of growing up. Guidance and mentoring can help us to learn to navigate the complexity of the world.

However, one easier to grasp balance – to be found – is between comfort and discomfort. Comfort can allow us to heal and rejuvenate, but too much comfort can cause muscle atrophy and mental complacency. Challenge can create growth and learning, but too much challenge can break us down to the point where we cannot function. So we need a balance. Just enough comfort to remain in good health and just enough challenge to expand and grow.

Keep this in mind. It’s critical that you strike that balance. If you want to learn more, book a quick call.
